Youth Board Description

Youth Board

The Youth Board exists to support the activities of Larchmont Temple’s informal youth groups. These groups promote a sense of community among our young Temple members, while fostering important Jewish values. Our youth groups generally begin at the sixth-grade level and continue through high school. In supporting the activities of these groups, we work closely with the director of youth programming at Larchmont Temple. The Youth Board also works to maintain bonds between the Temple community and our college student members.

Some of the activities the Youth Board supports are:

  • Annual freshman introductory event. This event is held at the beginning of each school year to introduce high school freshman to the possibilities available through membership in LarFTY, our high school youth group. We help coordinate and facilitate this event.
  • In conjunction with the Temple’s annual Youth Service, we coordinate a dinner/oneg, or other event.
  • High Holy Days Youth Services. We provide ushers for these services.
  • College Connection. We mail small gift packs to Temple college students at Hanukah and Passover.
  • Grants Committee. Youth Board representatives serve on a Temple committee that grants scholarships for certain youth activities.

In addition to the foregoing, from time to time we undertake additional initiatives at the request of Temple clergy or lay leadership.

The Youth Board includes members from the general Temple membership, as well as Rabbi Mara Nathan, the Youth Director, representatives from women of Reform Judaism, Larchmont Temple Brotherhood and the Religious School, and the president of LarFTY (our senior youth group). We typically meet once a month during the school year. Our Chairpersons liaison with Temple leadership through membership on the Board of Trustees.

The Youth Board is always seeking interested Temple members who would like to be considered for membership. There are no prerequisites or qualifications needed for membership – only that you would like to take an active interest in our informal youth programs. If you think you might be interested in joining the Youth Board, please talk to any one of our current members, send us an email at yb@larchmonttemple.org, or apply online!
