Larchmont Temple offers many means of congregant involvement and service. A list of committees and their functions follow. If you are interested in obtaining more information about, or in joining a committee, please use the form below.

Temple Committees

Adult Education
With senior rabbi, plans and implements programs of continuing Jewish Education, including, but not limited to, courses, scholar-in-residence weekends, interfaith lecture series and retreats.

ARZA /World Union, NA
Educates about and develops support for Israel through programs, literature and other educational means; encourages membership in ARZA (association of Reform Zionists of America) through dues check-off. Sign up for the email newletter!

Bar/Bat Mitzvah
Assigns dates to prospective candidates; disseminates information regarding Temple policies, practices, and requirements; supports families in planning for Bar/Bat Mitzvah; consults with Ritual Committee and School Board on issues affecting Bar/Bat Mitzvah.

Budget
Projects annual income and expenses; prepares budget for fiscal year for presentation to Executive Committee, Temple Board and congregation; evaluates and reviews annual operating expenses; assists religious school and nursery school in developing budgets.

Building
Oversees all major renovation/construction projects.

Calendar
Works to avoid conflict in scheduling and to assure all programmatic areas of congregation are appropriately scheduled; oversees calendar implementation.

Caring Community Committee (Chesed)

The Caring Community Committee (also known as Chesed) is a group of temple members who reach out to those in the Larchmont Temple community who are going through difficult times. We make condolence calls to members who have lost a loved one, occasionally organize a meal of comfort after the funeral, check in with our senior members by phone and provide meals for members who are ill.

Cemetery
Reviews cemetery needs of congregation and makes recommendations is expansion is required; oversees the administration of the cemetery.

College Connection (Part of Youth Board)
Maintains contact with college students; prepares and distributes Hanukah and Passover "care packages;" coordinates college Thanksgiving or other "homecoming" events.

Communications
Oversees/coordinates communications with members and external audiences; functions as editorial board for temple bulletin and web site; coordinate all publicity, press releases, photographs; develops public relations program for congregation; reviews printed materials for consistency in design and message.

Cultural Arts/Medwick
Coordinates the performing arts programs of the congregation funded through the Medwick Endowment and/or others. Activities may include but are not limited to musical events, drama, dance, art, and publications.

Development/Fair Share
Promotes voluntary contributions in support of the annual operating budget; promotes planned giving and other fundraising efforts.

Endowment
Promotes contributions to and the development of the Larchmont Temple Endowment Trust; manages the trust assets. (Membership limited)

First Friday
Responsible for the First Friday Community Dinners, held the first Friday of each month.

Governance
Responsible for developing and recommending changes to congregation policies, by-laws and constitutions; reviews committee structure and makes recommendations to ensure smooth operation.

Holiday Chevra
With rabbi, cantor, and others as appropriate, organize, prepare and implement congregational celebration of Sukkot, Simchat Torah, Tu-B'Shevat, Pesach, and Shavuot.

House
Supervises the buildings, grounds, equipment maintenance, and improvements to Temple physical plants (including 75 Larchmont Ave., Blum Building, 21 Larchmont Ave); recommends special refurbishing, replacement and/or improvement projects; with Executive Administrator, oversees custodial responsibilities.

House and Building Committee
Manages all maintenance and upgrades to the temple facilities and grounds, contact Bob Goodman, Goodman@bvp.com

L'Dor VaDor/ chesed
Evaluates congregation programs to ensure that the needs of each generation are met; recommends new programs as appropriate.

Leadership Development
Provides means to identify, train, and motivate leadership.

Library
Maintains, staffs, publicizes and makes purchases for Irma Cohen Library.

Membership
Responsible for attracting new members and retaining existing members. Develops and promotes program to attract new members; welcomes new members and assists in integrating them into congregational family; monitors membership issues, investigating why members disaffiliate.

Nominating
Recommends individuals to serve as officers and trustees, subject to congregational and board approval (members elected by congregation and board and appointed by affiliate organizations).

Outreach
Coordinates congregational activities to encourage, welcome and integrate non-Jewish partners of members and educate them about Reform Jewish practices and beliefs; provides support and encouragement to those interested in converting to Judaism; plans programs to educate congregation about Outreach issues.

Personnel
Oversees adherence of the congregation's personnel policies and makes recommendation to board for policy changes; recommends salaries and benefits for the staff; reviews annually senior professional staff. (Membership limited)

Ritual
With the rabbis and cantor, recommend worship innovations and changes; consults regarding regular and special worship services, practices, and texts; provide minyan and leaders for houses of mourning; trains lay leaders for Saturday and summer worship; coordinates aliyot and ushering.

Special Events
Plans and implements special events such as congregational picnic, scholar circle dinner, etc.

Social Action
The Social Action Committee of Larchmont Temple endeavors to achieve three
objectives:

To promote and carry forward hands-on participation in events that contribute to charitable causes and community.
To choose and contribute financially to a variety of charitable organizations, funds for which will be derived from the "Social Action Tzedakah Fund."
To promote and carry forward social advocacy at all levels of government and community.

Temple support
Works with the rabbis to support the congregation's caring community and to extend the pastoral capacity of Larchmont Temple. (Membership limited )

Temple Affiliate Organizations & Boards

Brotherhood
Offers wide range of educational, social, and service programs for all members of congregation, including brotherhood breakfasts, blood drives, and visits to Sarah Neuman Nursing Home. All congregants encouraged to join; board members elected.

Nursery Steering Committee
Oversees operation of Nursery School (Membership elected)

School Board
Oversees the operation of the Religious School; sets school policy. (Membership elected)

Women of Reform Judaism (WRJ)
Offers educational, social, and service programs of interest to women and congregation at large. All congregants encouraged to join; board members elected.

Youth Board
Oversees the informal youth activities of the congregation, including youth group.
