Life Cycle at LT
To everything there is a season, a time for every experience under heaven.
The Jewish people have always given special meaning and created special moments to mark the cycles of nature and of human life. As Rabbi Arthur Waskow has noted: “Jewish thought, Jewish practice, Jewish time itself, always have gone forward by seeming to go backward. By drawing on an ancient teaching, we create something new. We do not live in a circle, or on a straight line- but in spirals, great and small, that always beckon us forward by showing us something old we had all but forgotten.” (A Time for Every Purpose Under Heaven, xxix)
Each life cycle moment is a sacred event in time. From the joy of new life, to the expectation of marriage and the sorrow of losing a loved one, these moments bring us together. Our traditions give us the foundations for making our way through life with meaning. We infuse these traditions with creativity and love, reflecting the modern and liberal sensitivities that enrich our Jewish experiences as a Reform community.
