June 22nd Service of Tribute to Rita Grunbaum (z”l) Join us next Friday at 8PM for the final regular Shabbat service of the year, which will honor the memory of Rita Grunbaum (z”l), a lifelong mensch and congregant whose commitment to Judaism, selfless service, and social conscience positively influenced so many lives in our community and beyond. A dessert reception will follow the service and our congregational tribute to this extraordinary woman. The annual Larchmont Temple Benefit Journal will also be distributed. For more information, please email the Benefit Committee at RememberingRita@gmail.com.

The Adult Education Committee Presents: The Jewish/Israeli Film Festival: Sunday, June 24th, 4 PM, Grant Conference Room, $10—Yossi & Jagger (2002), directed by Eytan Fox--(For Mature Audience!)

It’s a case of “Don’t ask, don’t tell” when two male officers in the Israeli Army, Yossi (Ohad Knoller) and Jagger (Yehuda Levi), fall in love with each other while stationed together at a remote outpost on the Lebanese border. Based on a true story.

“…the movie, which ends with a wallop, is an unusually subtle and convincing study of group psychology and fluctuating morale among professionals under stress in close quarters.” (Stephen Holden, New York Times)

ARZA presents The Law and the Land: a fascinating Israel trip for lawyers (and their spouses/partners), November 1-11. Earn 14 NY-approved CLE credits at two days of classes from faculty at Tel Aviv University Law School. (Parallel programming for spouses/partners at that time.) Meet and discuss cutting-edge legal issues with Israeli lawyers, judges, Ministry of Justice officials, and scholars throughout the trip. Full details on itinerary, course schedule, costs, registration at www.arza.org/travel/mission/attorneys_trip/ or call Marla Schuchman at ARZA at 212-650-4096 (or call LT member Debra Goldstein at 914-833-2462).

Help Wanted: The Larchmont Temple Hospitality Committee needs a few hours of your time. The Committee’s purpose is creating a warm and welcoming feeling on Shabbat and when our congregation celebrates special occasions. The Committee plans and prepares regular and special Onegs, the Cantor’s Concert Reception, Friday night Shabbat dinners and other special activities throughout the year. Members of the Committee purchase flowers for vases, order food, set tables and decorate for the observance of special holidays. It only takes an hour to set up for Shabbat and most holidays but would mean a lot to our congregation. Please email Carol Scharff at: cscharff@optonline.net to join the committee or for more details.

Caring Community Committee: Larchmont Temple’s Caring Community Committee reaches out to those in our temple family who are facing challenges such as suffering the death of a loved one, experiencing age-related isolation or serious illness, or is caring for someone who is. If you or someone you know would benefit from the mitzvah of bikur cholim (visiting the sick) either by phone or in person, please call or e-mail Lisa Witten at 698-2560. All information will be kept strictly confidential.

Getting Through It: Though impossible to replace a loved one, grieving and mourning with the support of others does help in the healing process. However, in addition to family and friends, some of us find a need for a little extra sharing or counseling after a loss. Emily Laitmon, a LT Caring Community Committee member, LCSW therapist and bereavement counselor is available by phone or at her office, or your home to offer support. There is no fee for this service for Temple members. Call her at 914-633-4224 or email laitmon@aol.com to arrange an appointment.

Grave sites available at Larchmont Temple’s new Cemetery: Grave sites are now available at our new Mount Eden Cemetery at a special introductory rate, which will increase at the beginning of the Jewish New Year. Ze’ev Aviezer, the Temple's Executive Director, would be pleased to discuss cemetery pre-planning arrangements with you. Purchasing now brings the comfort of not having to manage this obligation in the face of a loss. Please call Mr. Aviezer at 834-6120 X14 for information or to schedule an appointment or visit www.larchmonttemple.org/cemetery.
